Surly Girly

Opening her mouth and removing doubt
Home Again Jiggity Job

So the trip was in a word - fabulous. I fully disconnected from work, the kids and husband and I all had a wonderful time. The girls thoroughly enjoyed the beach, TBG enjoyed his deep sea fishing adventure, and I enjoyed being back in Texas for a blessed 10 days. Even though it was hotter than the surface of the sun. And damper than the ocean floor. Simultaneously.

Dang I forgot what the heat felt like down there.

Anyway - we took an extra 2 days coming home and went through San Antonio and did the whole riverwalk/tour boat/alamo deal and then through Austin to visit my alma mater. Hit the co-op and bought the whole family UT shirts and then like the nerds we aspire to be, wore them to dinner. We'd actually had enough Mexican food (and you can't take a Kansas Citian to barbecue in Texas without them getting defensive) so we went to my next-best: Hula Hut. It was as kitchy as I remembered, and 2 Hu-la-la's later, I was feeling no pain. Come to think of it, I am not sure I could feel my toes either.

Ah well. Home is good, work still sucks, but at least my attitude is refreshed.

On the job front: Competitor called while we were away saying "we're still interested but we have 2 more interviews - just want to make sure you're still interested."

And my old employer called and set up an interview for Thursday. In another moment of serendipity - it turns out my interview is with the good friend/former colleague of my old boss. So I think unless there turns out to be another candidate with more years of experience, I should be holding a pretty strong position.

It would be nice to be offered a choice. Meanwhile, its lunch time, and I have a sammich with my name on it. (After the sheer quantity of seafood and mexican food we ingested last week, we're on a strict salad/sammich/light food diet.) Today marks my return to the gym. I'll let you know how that goes!

Glad you enjoyed Texas, even if it was steaming hot.

Isn't it amazing how the temperatures in Texas may not be the highest on the US map, but it just FEELS like those numbers should be 20 degrees higher? It's all that damn humidity. What beach did you go to?

My parents still live South West Houston, so we went down to Crystal Beach (Bolivar Penninsula by Galveston).

The beach wasn't all that bad, because there is usually at least a breeze - you don't feel the sticky part until you go back indoors. It was San Antonio that was so brutal - all the humidity and no breeze down in the river walk + thousands of tourists = cranky susannah. Although best mexican food and margaritas of the whole trip in a little hole in the wall that we almost missed. (to note: not the best in TEXAS, but it was the best of the trip anyway..)
